US line pipe imports rise 44.5 percent in January

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 175,894 mt in January 2018, up 44.5 percent from December and up 101.8 percent from January 2017 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $167.4 million in January 2018, compared to $120.2 million in the previous month and $70.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in January, with 80,141 mt, compared to 59,746 mt in December and 38,183 mt in January 2017. Other top sources of imported line pipe in January include Mexico, with 14,541 mt; Canada, with 13,448 mt; Greece, with 11,282 mt; Brazil, with 10,862 mt; and Taiwan, with 8,743 mt.
