US beam exports rise 22.5 percent in January

US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 34,550 mt in January, up 11.6 percent from December and up 0.2 percent from January 2016 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $30.9 million in January, compared to $27.5 million in the previous month and $30.4 million the same month last year.
 
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in January, with 28,563 mt, compared to 24,692 mt in December and 24,328 mt in January 2016. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 4,421 mt. There were no other notable (over 1,000 mt) destinations for US beam exports in January.
