US beam exports rise 20.2 percent in October

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 50,156 mt in October, up 20.2 percent from September and up 79.5 percent from October 2016 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $42.7 million in October, compared to $37.6 million in the previous month and $24.8 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in October with 45,058 mt, compared to 36,115 mt in September and 21,296 mt in October 2016. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 4,335 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US export beams in October.
