According to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in December last year Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 23.2 percent to 1.19 million mt, year on year.
In the given month, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 31.6 percent to 344,600 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports fell by 22.3 percent to 639,400 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In December, the long steel product imports of the country were down by 14.1 percent to 109,600 mt, year on year.
In December, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 128 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 93 percent in the same month of 2015.
In 2016, Turkey's steel imports declined by eight percent year on year to 17.5 million mt.
In the given year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 21.9 percent to 6.16 million mt, while its flat steel imports continued to increase with a 0.7 percent rise to 8.66 million mt, both compared to the previous year.
In 2016, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 99 percent of its steel import volume, increasing by four percentage points compared to 2015.
