Turkey’s steel import volume down 3.6 percent in January

According to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in January this year Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 3.6 percent to 1.44 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by six percent to $893 million, both year on year. 
 
In the given month, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 20.6 percent to 553,000 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports fell by 14.9 percent to 673,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In January, the long steel product imports of the country were down by 9.2 percent to 131,000 mt, year on year.  
 
In January, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 107 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 80 percent in the same month of last year.
