In January of the current year,
Turkey's steel exports declined by 7.1 percent to 1.48 million mt, while the value of these exports decreased by 1.3 percent to $1.25 billion, both on year-on-year basis, according to the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB) report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In January this year,
Turkey's billet exports decreased by 82.1 percent year on year to 58,000 mt, while slab exports reached 10,000 mt. In the given month,
Turkey's hot rolled flat steel exports decreased by 14.5 percent to 103,000 mt,
coated flat steel exports declined by 37.2 percent to 30,000 mt and
wire rod exports fell by 19.8 percent to 98,000 mt, while steel bar exports increased by 13 percent to 640,000 mt and steel section exports rose by 16.5 percent to 143,000 mt, all compared to January 2013.
Turkey's steel
pipe exports increased by 43.7 percent year on year to 176,000 mt in January of the current year.
Meanwhile, in January this year, Turkish steel industry ranked third among the country's exporting industries, accounting for a 10.4 percent share in the country's total export value of $12 billion, up 9.6 percent year on year.
Turkish Steel Exporters' Association chairman Namık Ekinci commented, "Our biggest wish for 2014 was to overcome the negative effects on our sector and to see stability and confidence in the global political situation and economy. However, the steel export result in January indicates that
Turkey's steel exports in 2014 will not be much different than 2013."
