In December last year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 190,294 mt, falling by 39.8 percent month on month and up 58.1 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $88.91 million, increasing by 113.8 percent year on year and down 39.7 percent month on month.
In 2017, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 2.39 million mt, up 49.9 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 104 percent to $1.02 billion, both year on year.
In 2017, Turkey imported 960,200 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 856,974 mt.
