In June this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 81,593 mt, falling by 67 percent year on year and down 38.6 percent compared to May, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $35.5 million, down 59.5 percent compared to June 2016 and rising by 61.6 percent month on month.
In the first half of the current year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 997,473 mt, up 11 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 61 percent to $403.9 million, both year on year.
In the January-June period this year, Turkey imported 454,068 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 293,496 mt.
