In December last year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 120,395 mt, remaining almost unchanged year on year and up 27 percent compared to November , according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $41.5 million, up 31 percent compared to December 2015 and rising by 22.8 percent month on month.
Last year, Turkey's slab imports decreased by 45.4 percent to 1.6 million mt, while the value of these imports declined by 50.6 percent to $500 million, both year on year.
In 2016, Turkey imported 632,304 metric tons of slab from Brazil. Brazil was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Ukraine, which supplied 320,077 mt in the given period.
