Turkey’s scrap import volume increases in January-February

In the January-February period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 9.6 percent to 2.52 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $664 million with a 47.5 percent increase compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
 
In the January-February period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 31.4 percent to 1.7 million mt, its scrap imports from the US fell by 26 percent to 386,000 mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 277,000 mt, down 35.2 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 67 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 15.3 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 11 percent.
