According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 140,035 metric tons, increasing 4.4 percent compared to the previous month and more than triple compared to the same month of 2011.
Turkey's top pig iron source in May this year with 81,757 mt was Ukraine, which had not exported pig iron to Turkey in the same month of 2011. Meanwhile, Russia's pig iron exports to Turkey in May reached 54,791 mt, increasing by 41.9 percent compared to May 2011.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey imported 639,690 mt of pig iron, increasing 80.5 percent compared to the first five months of the previous year. The average import price of pig iron in January-May was $482/mt, down $40/mt compared to the same period last year, according to the TUIK data.
