Turkey’s pig iron imports up 65.5 percent in H1

According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in June this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 89,808 metric tons, decreasing 35.9 percent compared to the previous month and up 0.6 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Turkey's top pig iron source in June this year with 48,900 mt was Ukraine, increasing its pig iron exports to Turkey by 16.1 percent compared to the same month of 2011. Meanwhile, Russia's pig iron exports to Turkey in June decreased to 31,586 mt, falling by 23.1 percent compared to June 2011.

In the first half of this year, Turkey imported 729,498 mt of pig iron, increasing 65.6 percent compared to the first half of the previous year. The average import price of pig iron in January-June was $483/mt, down $43/mt compared to the same period last year, according to the TUIK data.
