Turkey’s pig iron imports up 31 percent in July over June

According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in July this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 117,670 metric tons, increasing 31 percent compared to the previous month and up 7.8 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Turkey's top pig iron source in July this year with 76,569 mt was Ukraine, increasing its pig iron exports to Turkey by 143.5 percent compared to the same month of 2011. Meanwhile, Russia's pig iron exports to Turkey in July decreased to 39,651 mt, falling by 44.3 percent compared to June 2011.

In the first seven months of this year, Turkey imported 847,168 mt of pig iron, increasing 54.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The value of Turkish pig iron imports in January-July was $406 million, up 38.9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the TUIK data.
