According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in February this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 67,843 metric tons, decreasing 61.3 percent compared to 175,143 mt recorded in the previous month and down 40.6 percent compared to the same month of 2011.
In the first two months of this year, Turkey imported 242,986 mt of pig iron, increasing 19.4 percent compared to the first two months of the previous year. The average import price of pig iron in January-February was $471.5/mt, down $36.5/mt or 7.2 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the TUIK data.
Turkey's top pig iron source in the first two months were Ukraine which supplied 169,633 mt, doubling its exports to Turkey compared to the corresponding period of 2011. Meanwhile, Russia's pig iron exports to Turkey in January-February decreased by 15.4 percent year on year, amounting to 60,228 mt.
