Turkey’s pig iron imports surge in April

According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in April this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 134,153 metric tons, increasing 9.5 percent compared to the previous month and almost triple compared to the same month of 2011.
 
Turkey's top pig iron source in April this year was Ukraine which supplied 109,331 mt of pig iron to Turkey, compared to 17,218 mt recorded in the same month of 2011. Meanwhile, Russia's pig iron exports to Turkey in April decreased by 47.4 percent year on year to 18,805 mt.
 
In the first four months of this year, Turkey imported 499,656 mt of pig iron, increasing 58.3 percent compared to the first four months of the previous year. The average import price of pig iron in January-April was $478/mt, down $42/mt or 8.1 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the TUIK data.
