At the SteelOrbis 2012 Spring Conference & 66th IREPAS Meeting held in London on April 1-3, Salim Metin, chairman of Turkey-based long steel producer Nurmet, informed SteelOrbis about the liquid steel production investment the company is planning to make.

Mr. Metin indicated that they have received offers for the construction of the plant to be built on the land owned by the company in Payas in the southern Turkish province of Hatay and that they have entered the final stage of negotiations, adding that the plant will probably use an induction furnace. The construction of the plant will start within the current year, following the incentive program expected to be announced by the Turkish government in the near future.

In addition, Mr. Metin stated that they are planning to start billet production as of early summer 2013. The new facility will produce 300,000 mt of billet per year to feed Nurmet's existing rolling mill which has an annual capacity of 500,000 mt.
