Turkey’s ferroalloy imports fall in May

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's ferroalloy imports fell 37.5 percent compared to the previous month and were down 31.3 percent compared to May 2011, totaling 26,626 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $41.3 million, decreasing by 32.4 percent as compared to April and down 36 percent year on year.

In the first five months of 2012, Turkey's ferroalloy imports totaled 172,337 metric tons, decreasing 4.5 percent compared to January-May 2011. Imports from Ukraine in the period in question amounted to 64,620 metric tons, rising by one percent, while imports from India in the first five months of the current year amounted to 27,285 mt, down 15.3 percent, both compared to the same period of 2011. Meanwhile, China exported 22,963 mt of ferroalloys to Turkey in the first five months, up 56.5 percent year on year.
