Turkey's crude steel output down 7.9 percent in April from March

In April this year, Turkey's crude steel output decreased by 9.1 percent year on year and by 7.9 percent month on month to 2.62 million metric tons, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given month, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces fell 7.1 percent month on month and decreased by three percent year on year to 1.97 million metric tons, while production by blast furnaces decreased by 10.3 percent month on month and by 23.7 percent year on year to 653,000 metric tons.
 
Meanwhile, in the first four months of this year Turkey's crude steel output recorded a decrease of 2.7 percent year on year, totaling 11.05 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's crude steel production by electric arc furnaces declined by 1.3 percent to 7.85 million metric tons, while production by blast furnaces decreased by 5.8 percent to 3.20 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
 
In the January-April period this year, Turkey's billet output decreased by 3.5 percent to 8.17 million mt, while the country's slab output decreased by 0.1 percent to 2.88 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
