Turkey’s billet imports up 97.4 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey’s billet and bloom import volume declined by 27.3 percent month on month and rose by 22.4 percent year on year to 310,060 mt, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $198.57 million, down by 24.9 percent month on month and by 1.5 percent year on year.

In the first five months of this year, Turkey’s billet import volume amounted to 1.69 million mt, growing by 97.4 percent, while the value of these imports moved up by 56.7 percent to $1.01 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 749,598 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, up 51.8 percent year on year, while Algeria supplied 347,214 mt in the given period.
