Denis Manturov, Russian Industry and Trade minister has stated that Japanese automaker Toyota may transfer its Saint Petersburg plant in Russia to the Russian automotive research institute NAMI. However, nothing has been decided yet regarding the future of the plant, SteelOrbis understands.

Last year, Toyota decided to end vehicle production at its Saint Petersburg plant, having had to suspend manufacturing operations due to the interruption in supply of key materials and parts in 2022, as SteelOrbis previously reported.

Also last year, Japanese auto producer Nissan and French automaker Renault sold their stakes in their Russian operations to NAMI.
