Russia's largest oil and gas pipe producer TMK has announced that it has sent a shipment of about 800 mt of seamless steel pipes to Russia's biggest gas company Gazprom for the construction of Portovaya compressor station (CS), unique in its technical and operating characteristics, which will be a starting point for gas supplies via the Nord Stream gas pipeline.

The TMK seamless pipes of 60.3 mm to 406.4 mm diameter, of 4.4 mm to 20.62 mm wall thickness, and of X56 to X70 strength, will be used by Gazprom to assemble a manifold pipeline that connects separate units of the Portovaya CS, including gas compressor units, a gas treatment facility, etc.

This is the first time TMK's plants have produced pipes with such strength properties required by Gazprom's special technical specifications. TMK was the only pipe company ready to manufacture these specialized products for such a complex and high-tech facility. The compressor station will secure gas transmission across the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which is designed to export Russian natural gas to Europe.
