According to latest market news, ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks, a subsidiary of German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp Group, is going to produce laser-welded tailored blanks for the automotive industry at its new service centre in southern Italy. In the first stage, the company will construct a production plant with two laser-welding lines at a cost of €4 million. The third welding line will be installed in fiscal 2004/2005. The company expects 1.5 million tons of tailored blanks and €9 million sales in the fiscal year ending on September 30, 2004. The plant will supply blanks for Fiat Auto in Melfi and its suppliers Renault and Ford in Turkey. The company aims to increase its worldwide tailored blanks production from 37 million tons in 2002 to 64 million tons in 2007. Tailored Blanks has improved its operations in China, Mexico, US, Brazil and Italy in the previous years. Furthermore, the company is planning to expand its capacity in Spain, India and China.
