TCUD: Turkey’s steel import volume down 8.6 percent in Jan-Nov

In November last year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 40.1 percent to 886,000 mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 29.3 percent to $839 million, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the month of November, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 30.4 percent to 320,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 51 percent to 399,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In November, total long steel product imports were down by 39 percent to 79,000 mt, year on year.

In November, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 221 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 112 percent in the same month of 2017.

In the first eleven months of last year, the country’s steel imports decreased by 8.6 percent to 13.7 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 7.2 percent to $12.1 billion, both on year-on-year basis.

In the January-November period last year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 2.1 percent to 4.5 million mt, while its flat steel imports declined by 15 percent to 7.1 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 1.2 million mt, falling by seven percent year on year. Pipe imports were registered as 464,000 mt in this period, declining two percent year on year.

In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 133 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 107 percent in the same period of 2017.
