Sweden-based H2 Green Steel has announced that it will supply carbon-reduced steel to German automaker Porsche AG.

As SteelOrbis reported previously, the company would start producing the green steel at its Boden plant in northern Sweden using renewable energy sources from late 2025 onwards.

Thus, as of 2026, H2 Green Steel will start supplying near zero-emission steel to Porsche and its direct suppliers. Accordingly, up to 35,000 mt of the low-emission steel produced in Sweden are to be used for the series production of Porsche vehicles. In 2022, 220,000 mt of steel were used in Porsche vehicles. The company previously inked similar deals with the Volkswagen Group and Scania.

According to its statement, H2 Green Steel will rely on an innovative production process with hydrogen and electricity from renewable sources to offer a material with one of the lowest carbon footprints on the market. H2 Green Steel states that this results in up to 95 percent lower carbon emissions than conventional steel production with coking coal.
