Russian iron ore producer Stoilensky, part of NLMK Group, a global steelmaking major, announced that it has commenced construction of a new stage of its thickening unit, which is a hydrotechincal facility that dehydrates slurry and thickens the solids, recycling the separated water and using it again in the production. The company will invest RUB 1.5 billion ($23.07 million) in total in this project.
Thanks to this project, Stoilensky will produce and transport ore more efficiently and store waste ore after beneficiation. When the construction of the new stage of the thickening unit is completed, beneficiation operations will gain stability, as the company aims to increase production by 2021. The new thickening unit will also reduce water consumption and the size of tailings area.
