Giant Austrian-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Mining and Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) for the installation of new dedusting systems and auxiliary equipment for its third new basic oxygen furnace (BOF) converter at its steelmaking plant No. 2.

The order, worth in the two-digit million euro range, is in line with NLMK's campaign to considerably reduce emissions from its oxygen steelmaking works and thus to improve the overall air quality in Lipetsk.

The third 325 mt capacity converter being installed at the BOF steelmaking plant No. 2 is scheduled to be started up in 2011, and will allow NLMK to increase the annual steel capacity of the plant from approximately 5.5 to 7.6 million mt.
