As part of capital repair works, Russian steelmaker Severstal's subsidiary Cherepovets Steel Mill is implementing the first stage of a program to replace cranes used in steel production, at a cost of $63.5 million.

Realization of the program started in 2010 with the start of the project to replace crane No. 8 with a carrying capacity of 520 mt at the converter mill. Implementation of four other similar projects to replace cranes is planned to start in 2011 and be completed in 2011-2013.

The program is a long-term one and provides for the replacement of more than 30 overhead cranes with lifting capacities from 16 mt to 520 mt.
