The Russian steel producer Severstal has delivered the first batch of large diameter (LD) pipes to Russian state-owned oil transportation company Transneft for the construction of the second part of the Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2). For this part of BPS-2, Severstal plans to ship more than 45,000 mt of LD pipes.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, Severstal started its first deliveries of LD pipes to Transneft for the first part of BPS-2 at the end of May this year. During the first six months of the current year, the company's LD pipes deliveries for the BPS-2 project amounted to about 35,000 mt.

"In November, Severstal shipped more than 8,000 mt of 18 m pipes for the second part of BPS-2," Severstal Cherepovets' sales director Dmitry Goroshkov stated, adding that Severstal's total deliveries for Transneft's project will amount to 70,000 mt of pipes of 1,020 and 1,067 mm diameter and of 11-16 mm wall thickness.

In addition, Mr. Goroshkov said that the deliveries of rolled steel products and pipes for Russia's fuel and power sector companies is one of Severstal's priorities. Thus, in the second half of the current year, Severstal Cherepovets almost doubled the capacity utilization level of its mill 5000 and raised its output of pipes by about 1.5 times, compared to the first half of the year.
