Spain-based Sarralle has announced that it has commissioned the world’s first ladle preheating station capable of working with 100 percent green hydrogen at Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal’s Sestao plant in Spain.

The new ladle preheating station will improve the operation of the existing ladle preheater and replace natural gas as fuel by green hydrogen, reducing carbon emissions to a minimum.

This milestone will allow the Sestao plant to take an important step towards its goal of being the first steel plant in the world with zero carbon emissions in the entire production process by 2025.
