Indian state-run steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied the entire 4,000 mt of special steel required in the manufacture of India’s sixth indigenously-built frigate ship for the Indian Navy, a company statement said on Monday, August 21.

SAIL said that the entire volume of special steel was supplied to government-operated Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), which was responsible for building the frigate ship launched last week.

The steel supplied by SAIL was DMR-249A grade of hot rolled (HR) sheets and plates, and involvement in the frigate building project indicated the company’s capabilities in meeting the requirements of the Indian defense sector, the company statement said.

Earlier, SAIL had supplied 30,000 mt of special steel for the indigenously built-aircraft carrier of Indian Navy commissioned recently.
