In 2011-2012, Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) will invest about €100 million in the construction of plate rolling mill 4200 at its Danish subsidiary NLMK DanSteel. The project finish is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2012. However, for the time being, the company does not plan to increase production at its Danish unit, but intends to expand its product range and to switch over to the production of material of higher steel grade.

NLMK DanSteel produces plates for the production of wind power plants, shipbuilding, and manufacturing of high pressure vessels. The combined rolling capacity is about 500,000 mt per year. By 2014, the company plans to increase capacity to 700,000 mt per year. About 90 percent of the slabs for the production of steel plate at NLMK DanSteel come from NLMK. In 2010, NLMK DanSteel produced 380,000 mt of steel plates.
