Primetals to supply continuous slab caster to Chinese steel producer

Wednesday, 14 May 2025 14:11:55 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced a new supply contract for a new thick-slab continuous caster to a steel producer based in China. The caster’s annual capacity will be 1.9 million mt and it is expected to start production in mid-2026.

The scope of the contract includes key mechanical equipment, a comprehensive automation solution and implementation services. With the new equipment, the producer will be able to manufacture plates up to 360 mm in thickness for heavy-gauge, high-end applications, including the wind turbine sector.

The continuous caster will be equipped with several technologies developed by Primetals, ensuring defect-free, high-quality thick plates by dynamic alignment of casting gaps resulting from different production parameters such as steel grade, cooling grade and casting speed change. The caster will also include a comprehensive automation system, enabling optimized casting conditions and greater flexibility.
