Global refractories producer RHI Magnesita, a company comprised of Brazil’s Magnesita and Austria-based RHI, is considering expanding its Brumado mine in Bahia state, according to a media report from Valor.

The company’s growing demand should drive the Brumado sinter magnesite expansion plans, an executive said. The Brumado complex in Bahia produces four different sinter magnesite products. One of these four lines should increase capacity from 60,000 to 85,000 mt/year. The company did not disclose details or a timeline for the proposed expansion.

Brazil accounts for between 18 to 22 percent RHI Magnesita’s overall revenues.
