Brazilian ferroalloys producer Ferbasa said this week its Campo Formoso and Andorinha waste dams are “safe” and meet current requirements.
Ferbasa said the dams, in Bahia state, were classified by Brazilian authorities as “low potential damage risk.” They are also labeled as having a low risk of bursting.
Vale’s iron ore dam, which burst on January 25 and killed at least 110 people, was also considered of “low” bursting risk; however, it was considered a high potential damage risk.
