Qatar Steel has formed a joint venture company, Qatar Steel International, owned by Qatar Steel and Qatar Mining to build an integrated steel mill in Algeria, with an annual crude steel output capacity of 5 million mt, in order to meet growing demand in the country, said Qatar Steel's commercial division manager Ahmed Al-Ansari at the SteelOrbis Spring '12 Conference & 66th IREPAS Meeting held in London on April 1-3.

Mr. Al-Ansari stated that the steel mill will be commissioned in two phases, the first to produce long steel products with an annual capacity of 2.5 million mt and the second to produce flat steel products with the same capacity. The joint venture steel mill will be 49 percent owned by Qatar Steel International and 51 percent owned by an Algerian company.
