UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that it will supply automation and electrical equipment for the reconstruction of the Russian steel producer EVRAZ’s blast furnace No. 6, located in Nizhniy Tagil Metallurgical Plant (NTMK) which mainly produces train wheels, rails, structural steel, pipe blanks and semi-finished products. NTMK has a capacity of 4.9 million metric tons of hot metal and 4.2 million metric tons of finished steel per year.

According to Primetals’ statement, the reconstruction of the blast furnace No. 6 will enable the furnace’s optimization and the reduction of coke consumption. Primetals Technologies previously supplied the electrical equipment and automation for EVRAZ’s blast furnace No. 7, which has been in operation since the beginning of March 2018.

The blast furnace No. 6 is scheduled to be commissioned by the middle of 2020.
