Crude steel production in Argentina reached 354,500 mt in April, against 416,700 mt in March, according to the country’s steel association Acero Argentino.
Under the same comparative basis, the production of HRC declined by 55.8 percent to 93,400 mt, while the production of CRC declined by 34.0 percent to 73,000 mt and the production of long products declined by10.3 percent to 176,300 mt.
According to Acero Argentino, the decline reflects stoppages for maintenance of equipment in different plants of the sector.
In relation to the main steel demanding sectors, Acero Argentino mentioned that the civil construction sector continues to perform well, raising positive expectations for the coming months, similar to the machinery and equipment sectors.
Meanwhile, automotive production declined in April by 10.1 percent from March, although it increased by 49.5 percent from April 2022.
Aceros Argentinos added that the energy sector remains firm and with good perspectives, while the sector of domestic appliances is showing signs of a small reduction of demand for steel products.
According to the association, the major threats for the steel sector now are the difficulties to import raw materials, due to the current financial crisis the country is facing, and the possibility of problems with the supply gas and electricity to the production plants.
