Peruvian iron ore production increases in May

Peruvian iron ore output in May increased 21.4 percent, year-on-year, to 992,009 mt, according to the nation’s ministry of mines and energy (Minem). Peruvian iron ore production in May 2018 was 816,647 mt.

Minem said Peruvian iron ore output in the accumulated period of January to May totaled 3.5 million mt, nearly 20 percent down, year-on-year, from 4.4 million mt in the same period of the year prior.

Shougang Hierro Peru is the nation’s key iron ore producer. In May 2019, it accounted for 939,448 mt of the commodity, out of a total iron ore production of 992,009 mt.
