Peruvian iron ore production rose 34.8 percent in August, year-on-year, according to the nation’s ministry of mines and energy (Minem). Iron ore production in August totaled 981,568 mt, up from 727,842 mt in the same month of the year prior.
Peru’s two only iron ore producers are Shougang Hierro Peru, which accounts for most of the commodity’s output, and Minera Shouxin Peru SA. Shougang Hierro Peru accounted for 949,422 mt of the iron ore produced in August this year, and for 708,942 mt in August 2017.
Minem said accumulated Peruvian iron ore output from January to August reached 6.6 million mt, 10.5 percent up, year-on-year.
