Peruvian iron ore export prices down in December

Peruvian iron ore export prices in December fell to $33.7/mt from $47.5/mt in the same month of 2016, according to data released by the country’s central bank (BCRP).

Government data indicated Peruvian iron ore export prices in December slightly improved in a month-on-month analysis from $32/mt in November.

Peruvian iron ore export volumes in December reached 1.2 million mt, down from 1.5 million mt in November, but up from 600,000 mt in December 2016.

In the first half of the year, Peruvian iron ore export prices were on a declining trend, from $48.1/mt in January to $26.3/mt in June. In the second half of the year, prices ranged between $33.7/mt in December to $44.9/mt in August.
