In November last year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 5.2 percent compared to October, three percentage point less than the January 2013 peak, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region was 33.2 million people in the same month.
In November, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 7.9 percent, declining by 0.1 percentage point, falling to its lowest level since October 2008. In the given month, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in Luxembourg to five percent and in the Netherlands to 3.5 percent. Outside Europe, the unemployment rate fell for the third consecutive month in Canada by 0.2 percentage points to 5.6 percent and in South Korea by 0.1 percentage point to 3.8 percent. The unemployment rate also fell by 0.1 percentage point in the United States to 3.7 percent, but rose by 0.1 percentage point in Australia to 5.1 percent, in Japan to 2.5 percent and in Mexico to 3.3 percent.
