In March this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 5.3 percent compared to February, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region was 33.6 million people in the same month, rising by 100,000 month on month.
In March, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 7.7 percent, falling 0.1 percentage point month on month. In the given month, the largest declines in the unemployment rate were observed in Ireland, Italy and Lithuania with 0.3 percentage point decreases. Outside Europe, in March the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 2.5 percent in Japan, month on month. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained stable in Canada and the US at 5.8 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively, compared to the previous month.
