Nippon Steel reallocates production in Nagoya mill
Japan Nippon Steel has recently announced that, it will reallocate
production in its mills after the fire broke out in Nagoya mill last week. It is also stated that, the company requests assistance of other steel producers and is asking for customers for readjustments of delivery times.
Due to the closure of the blast furnace after the explosion, Nippon Steel expects that the targeted
pig iron output of 580'000 tons for September to decrease by 200'000-300'000 tons. By the end of December, the loss in
pig iron production is expected to be 500'000 tons. However, the officials of the company believe that by mid-September the two blast furnaces will be set up and this will enable the company to achieve 90% of the normal operation by the end of September.
Due to explosion, three gasholders, two coke ovens (COG), one blast furnace (BFG) were pulled down. Accordingly operations of reheating furnaces of the hot strip and
plate mills, continuous annealing furnaces and continuous galvanizing lines utilizing COG and BFG were suspended.
The company has been able to restart operation of the coke ovens, one blast furnace, HR and CR mills, continuous annealing, galvanizing and tinning lines over last week, however operation of the
plate mill is in preparation.
It is also stated that the company has decided not to increase prices due to restoration.
