Industrial production in Mexico dropped 13.2 percent in April 2009 compared to the same month last year and was down 0.95 percent compared to the previous month, according to a report issued by Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) Wednesday.

The report details the following decreases seen among different industrial sectors in April 2009 as compared to the same month last year: manufacturing industries fell 18 percent, principally due to the drop in basic metal industries; construction declined 11.3 percent; and mining fell 0.4 percent, largely caused by the drop in petroleum production.

The accumulated declines in the first four months of the year compared to the same period of time in 2008 are as follows: industrial activity fell 10.7 percent; the manufacturing sector declined 14.9 percent; construction 8.2 percent; and mining 0.9 percent.
