New vehicle sales in Mexico increased 23.8 percent, year-over-year, in August to 113,873 units, the sixteenth consecutive annual increase. Considering only the months of August, the registered increase is the highest in the last 23 years, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from national statistics agency Inegi.
Of the total volume for August, four companies accounted for 51.2 percent. Nissan contributed 18.6 percent of the total. General Motors contributed 14.4 percent, Volkswagen 11.3 percent and KIA 7.0 percent. The increases of the Chinese companies Chirey (Cherey Automobile) with an increase of 336 percent and Motor Nation (Changan, Beijing Automotive Group and Jiangling Motors Corporation) with an increase of 107 percent also stand out.
From January to August, 857,803 units were sold, 23.6 percent or 163,793 more vehicles compared to the same period last year. The percentage increase is also the highest in the last 23 years.
