Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has announced that it has supplied 22,000 mt of rails and rolled steel for construction of Moscow Metro’s Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line.
Moscow is preparing to simultaneously launch 10 stations of the Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line’s western, south-western and southern parts. Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line, which will be 70 kilometers long, will have a total of 31 stations, 19 of which will have interchanges with other subway lines, Moscow Central Ring or suburban trains.
Most of the supplies such as rails, rebar, flats and beams were produced by Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant’s mills, part of Mechel.
Over the past five years, Mechel supplied approximately 35,000 mt of rolled steel products and 85,000 mt of rails for construction of Moscow Metro. The company plans to continue supplies for construction of other stations of Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line.
