Mechel’s Q4 crude steel and coal outputs rise, outputs in 2025 decline

Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has announced its production and sales results for the fourth quarter and the full year of 2025.

Accordingly, in the fourth quarter last year, Mechel produced 838,000 mt of crude steel, 6.9 percent higher compared to the third quarter, while its pig iron production increased by 3.8 percent quarter on quarter to 716,000 mt. The company’s production of run-of-mine coal totaled 2.34 million mt, up 82.3 percent quarter on quarter. Meanwhile, in 2025, the company produced 3.29 million mt of crude steel, down by 1.7 percent year on year, while its pig iron production decreased 3.9 percent year on year to 2.87 million mt. The company’s production of run-of-mine coal in 2025 totaled 7.28 million mt, down 32.9 percent year on year.

In the fourth quarter of the current year, Mechel’s coking coal concentrate sales decreased by 43.9 percent quarter on quarter to 419,000 mt, with sales to third parties going down by 48.6 percent quarter on quarter to 151,000 mt during the given period. In the full year of 2025, the company’s coking coal concentrate sales went down by 29.3 percent year on year to 2.86 million mt, with sales to third parties decreasing by 45.2 percent year on year to 1.49 million mt during the given period.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the company’s shipments of iron ore concentrate decreased by 15.5 percent quarter on quarter to 377,000 mt. The company’s shipments of iron ore concentrate in 2025 increased by 12.6 percent year on year to 1.66 million mt.

The company’s sales of coke went up by 0.5 percent quarter on quarter to 420,000 mt in the fourth quarter of 2025, while in the full year Mechel’s sales of coke decreased by 11.7 percent year on year to 1.73 million mt. Meanwhile, the company’s sales of ferrosilicon in the fourth quarter of the current year totaled 21,000 mt.

In 2025, the company’s total sales of long steel products decreased by eight percent year on year to 2.24 million mt and sales of flat steel products totaled 191,000 mt, down 12.8 percent year on year.
