Kiev to initiate trade negotiations on pipes

Kiev will reportedly restart the trade negotiations on pipe imports from Ukraine to Russia. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Moscow announced plans to impose a 40 percent duty or to implement a quota restriction on large diameter pipes imported from Ukraine to Russia, since the domestic steel producers are suffering because of the cheap imports. Industry sources report that Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers sent a letter to Russia's Ministry of Economic Policy and Trade in an effort to restart the failed trade negotiations between the two countries. While Russian pipe producers suffer from the Ukrainian imports, if a tariff or a quota restriction is implemented on Ukrainian pipes, Ukrainian pipe producers will bear a loss. So it is in both countries best interests to meet and hammer out a win-win agreement.
