JFE Steel orders new EAF to reduce emissions

Japan-based Daido Steel has announced that it will supply a STARQ® electric arc furnace to Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation to be installed at the latter’s plant No. 4 in Chiba.

According to the statement, STARQ® has no restrictions on the type or shape of input raw materials and is ideal for manufacturing high-grade steel such as stainless steel.

The furnace, which is planned to have an annual production capacity of 300,000 mt of stainless steel, is scheduled to be commenced in the second half of 2025. The EAF will enable the company to annually reduce carbon emissions by up to 450,000 mt.
