In May this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 591,779 mt, increasing by 5.2 percent compared to 562,286 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-May period this year, the country exported 2.83 million mt of scrap, increasing by 6.4 percent year on year.
During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1,203,261 mt, down by 18.3 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 674,897 mt and 378,277 mt of scrap, up 12.1 percent and up 93.1 percent, respectively, year on year.
Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 168,595 mt in the January-May period this year, up from 150,450 mt in the same period of the previous year.
